Top 5 Reasons the Broncos are back!
These are 5 key factors that have helped the Broncos get back on track.
After a historically bad 1-5 start, the Broncos looked inward and found spirit, grit, and the right personnel. Now after winning six of their last seven games the Broncos control their destiny and are in playoff contention. Here are the Top 5 reasons they were able to right the ship.
5. Ja'Quan McMillian.
Ja’Quan McMillian has been the unsung hero for the Bronco’s Defense. After taking over for a struggling Damri Mathis, McMillian has two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a pair of sacks. All of which have contributed to Denver’s dominant defensive turnaround.
4. Courtland Sutton’s Reliability.
When a team struggles on Offense like the Broncos it’s always important to have that wide receiver who makes the big plays when you need them the most and someone who’s just a big reliable target. Courtland Sutton has been that for the Broncos so far snatching 10 touchdowns with over 600 receiving yards. He’s the first Broncos Wide receiver to hit double-digit touchdowns since 2014.
3. A Healthy Team.
For the past seven years, the Denver Broncos have struggled to maintain a healthy team regardless of the coaching staff. They’ve lost key starters like Javonte Williams, Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and many more. Well after the hiring of a world-class Physical Therapist Beau Lowery, the Broncos are finally seeing consistency in health. With the great health of the team, they’ve been able to learn the systems and each other with no what-if questions to be asked.
2. Vance Joseph’s defensive Turnaround.
The Bronco’s defense started historically bad allowing 70 points to the Miami Dolphins and ranked dead last in every defensive statistic. Since the 1-5 start Vance Joseph has turned around the unit. The Broncos went from allowing 36.2 points per game through their first five games to around 16.8 points per game. They’ve generated multiple turnovers and many sacks in their last 8 games. Vance Joseph’s turnaround not only catapulted the Broncos into playoff contention but might be the best turnaround in NFL history.
1. Bold Personnel Changes.
Sean Payton and George Paton made bold roster decisions after starting 1-5 that changed the course of the season. It started with trading Randy Gregory a year after signing him to a five-year, $70 million deal. They then released veteran pass rusher Frank Clark after signing him to a 1 year, $5 million deal. They then released corner Essay Bassey and benched a multitude of other players. Making these moves and inserting youth onto the 53-man roster has changed everything.
By the season’s end, the Denver Broncos could be looking at the most dramatic turnaround the NFL has ever seen and these five reasons are a huge part of why. Even if the Broncos fail to make the playoffs the fanbase would have hope for the future which is all the Broncos fanbase could ever ask for.
